What Is Tendonitis?
Tendonitis, also known as an overuse injury, occurs when a tendon—the thick cord that connects muscle to bone—becomes inflamed due to repetitive motion, strain, or excessive use. This condition can cause pain, swelling, and reduced mobility, making everyday tasks and physical activities challenging. At Tri Physical Therapy in Phoenix, AZ, we specialize in diagnosing and treating tendonitis to help patients regain function and prevent chronic pain. Common areas affected by tendonitis include the shoulders, elbows (tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow), wrists, knees, and Achilles tendon. If left untreated, tendonitis can worsen over time, leading to long-term discomfort and potential complications.
How Is Tendonitis Treated?
At Tri Physical Therapy, we take a comprehensive approach to treating tendonitis, focusing on pain relief, healing, and preventing recurrence. Physical therapy plays a key role, incorporating targeted exercises that strengthen muscles and improve flexibility to reduce strain on the affected tendon. Manual therapy techniques, such as soft tissue mobilization and myofascial release, help relieve tension, enhance circulation, and promote tissue healing.
Dry needling can also be beneficial for tendonitis by targeting trigger points and relieving muscle tension. Depending on the severity of the condition, bracing or taping may be used to provide additional support and minimize strain on the injured tendon. To prevent future injuries, we focus on activity modification and ergonomic training, helping patients develop better movement patterns and posture to reduce stress on the tendons.

Tri Physical Therapy Reviews
I’ve been coming here for years and the office is full of amazing people! Great physical therapist and wonderful massage therapist. I wouldn’t go any where else.
The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Making the first appointment was super easy by using their online chat system. The medical massages definitely helped increase my range of motion and reduce my pain. The massage therapist used scrapping and cupping, which were extremely beneficial. Also, each massage therapist listened to my concerns, provided necessary treatment, insight into what could be causing my pain, and shared at home remedies.
They are the best!! I struggled for the last 2 years with a back injury. I am almost a 💯 after just 4 visits..
